“Dataroom” is a data journalism column published by the most widely read newspaper in Italy and written by Milena Gabanelli, a renowned investigative journalist. Each article she writes is accompanied by a video, and I was responsible for the entire post-production process.
My tasks included:
Assisting with greenscreen filming in the studio and supervising the journalist’s speech during recording.
Editing the approved footage and applying chroma key techniques.
Sourcing and adding relevant video footage.
Verifying data in collaboration with other journalists on the team.
Designing custom icons and animating motion graphics to complement Gabanelli’s gestures.
Addressing last-minute changes of any kind, such as inserting audio/video, updating data, or replacing materials.
There were two mandatory online video releases per week, one of which was also sent to the broadcasting station La7 as a TV report for their 8 PM newscast. I was the sole person in charge of the videos and consistently delivered them on time, even in this fast-paced environment.
Working for a newspaper, especially so closely with one of my favorite icons, was an incredible experience. I grew up watching Gabanelli’s investigative TV programs as a teenager with admiration, and I can now proudly say I’ve crossed “working with her” off my bucket list.
